Lights On - third edition

Nov 27 - Dec 6, 2020

Solitude Edition

Solitude means not isolation or loneliness, but the ability to be okay with yourself. Discover the significance of each installation in Lights On, in context with the general theme.

An event during the pandemic

First of all we need to explain the concept a bit, to describe the fact that light installations have a character similar to sculptures in public space.

Lights On is a festival focused on a niche of new arts, represented by more or less interactive sculptural light installations.

The interactive installations are equipped with proximity sensors that react to your proximity, so you don’t have to touch anything to enjoy the experience of our installations.

Lights On does not have light projections in the program, it does not use technologies such as video-mapping. In other words, Lights On does not have a climax that would require the audience to gather in a certain place at a certain time. This is one of the main differences between Lights On and other similar events.

This will allow the event to take place in 2020 in the form of a large-scale light exhibition.

In 2020 all the installations will be in open spaces

Which means that whatever it is you are doing when you are near a statue from the centre of your city, you can do the same near Lights On installations.

You will come. You will watch. You will take photos. You will read. You will understand. You will leave.

Everything at your own pace. The installations and their stories will be available anytime you want during the festival. Some of them will be available even longer than that, to enjoy the light a little longer.

However, there are some rules you have to follow when you visit the installations:

  • keep a distance of at least 2 meters from the people around you
  • wear your protection mask the right way (cover your nose and mouth) everywhere in Cluj Napoca
  • at the moment in Cluj Napoca, like anywhere else around the country, you can’t leave the house between 11 PM and 5 AM without a good reason, so we recommend you stay indoor during that time
  • stay home if you feel tired or unwell
  • obey the local rules at every step

In this hard and delictate time our wish is that Lights On helps those who found a meaning in Solitude, or at least have looked for it. This being said, please follow all the rules that apply when going out and enjoy the light artworks in a responsible way.

We can do this together

Lights On advises general audience to discover local shops near the installations when they are walking by. The best way to get past these hard times is to support each other, even with small shopping.
